Ingredients
  

  • 5 cup pastry flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 lb lard or shortening
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 egg, large; beaten

Method
 

  1. MIX together flour and salt in a large bowl. 
  2. Cut in lard with a pastry cutter or gently with fingertips until mixture resembles coarse oatmeal. 
  3. Gradually add enough water to make dough cling together. 
  4. Gather into a ball and divide in half. Shape each ball into a flattened round on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 30 minutes.
